ole!

Maya and I shared a festive mexican feast for lunch yesterday.
I heated up some corn tortillas, and spread refried beans over them, and then sprinkled her FAVORITE food ever-brown rice -over the top. I doused mine in tapatillo, and we both enjoyed.

we are family

yo yo yogurt

Yesterday Maya met her new friend yogurt. This is one of the proteins the doctor said we should try.
I gave her full fat plain yogurt and swirled in home made blueberry puree rather than buying the already sweetened kind-at least for now.

books are your friend

I LOVE BOOKS.
I LOVE TO READ.
I get this from my mom and I am hoping to instill it in Maya and Luka.
Maya has a box of books on the floor of the playroom, and more than once a day she will WALK over there (yes shes walking more and more now!!) and sit down and read for minutes at a time. Thats a long time for a toddler.
Here she is showing Luka one of her favorite's "my quiet book".

1 year check up

Today was Maya's 1 year check up.
She is 22 pounds 1 oz and 31 inches tall.
The doctor was very happy with her, and said she is healthy and on the right track.
We get to start proteins next week which will be an exciting food adventure.
The visit ended with 3 shots, which pretty much sucked from Maya's perspctive.

Here are a couple of new toys Maya recently received.
I am so happy to report she is cruising around alot with her aligator walker, and I think she will be walking on her own pretty soon.

This musical ball machine is also the source of alot of pride and joy since she learned what button to push to turn it on, and she tries to catch the balls as they pop out of the top.

Fun with Luka

Maya loves hanging out with her big brother so much.
She also thinks bubbles are one of the best things ever.
So when you put the 2 together its awesome!
Luka likes blowing bubbles on the balcony for Maya every afternoon when she tends to get cranky.

She also loves being on his shoulders.
She slaps both sides of his head and laughs.

That's how Maya feels about the beets im always trying to sneak in somehow.
And as you can see she LOVES feeding herself spaghetti squash.

Here is the birthday girl, and Maya's American side of her family on her actual birthday. Pedja made a fantastic dinner for everyone.

I swear when she woke up that day she looked like a toddler, not a baby anymore.

A big day for big brother

Today Luka started 7th grade. In Serbia he was in 6th grade, so he is pretty proud to have skipped a whole grade.
Of course there are the first day jitters and nervousness of meeting friends and fitting in, but he handled it very well this morning.
Maya and I walked with him to offer moral support.

Here he is in front of Emerson, and with Maya on our way.

Happy New Year~

We had Maya's birthday party at our house yesterday.
It was the perfect way to start a new year.
Of course BOTH of our cameras were out of service so I don't have 1 single picture - yet.
I know my family took plenty so as soon as I get them I will post asap.
The theme was birds, and we asked everyone to wear blue, which is Maya's favorite color. And almost everyone did
It was dessert and Champagne -we had to have champagne, it was new years day after all, and nothing is more festive than bubbles in your drink!
Some of her friends came and I think that was my favorite part, when all the kids were playing, and talking, and some were walking!
My other favorite part was when Maya ate her birthday cake. She has had no sugar or sweets to date, so I thought she would be pretty stoked. It was a vanilla bean cake with chocolate ganache frosting (all vegan), and she gagged and spit out all of the cake, but went to town on the ganache! Today I found chocolate in her left ear and on the back of her neck.
I felt so bad, I kept saying "I made the cake-- I made the cake" and I so didn't. My mom did, and it was awesome!
Maya was so excited for her party that she skipped right over her morning nap, and then was having so much fun at her party, she also skipped her afternoon nap. She finally crashed -flat on her face-with her new baby blue tu-tu on over her 2nd outfit change - on the couch. My mom got adorable shots of that.
I want to shout out a big thanks to all the grandparents for making the party possible and fabulous.
