catching up

Gosh I can not believe it's been yet another whole month without a single post!
Where does the time go?

Maya is almost 17 months and is running around everywhere, climbing on everything. Trips to the park are a daily routine now. She LOVES to swing, and climb up the slide, then slide down on her belly. Its a great family event because Pedja and Luka play soccer on the grass while Maya has her fun.

This past weekend we went to the Strawberry festival up in Oxnard. In my opinion it was more festival (with lots of deliciously nasty carnival food like churros {of course I had one the second we got in the gates}) and fried everything, than strawberry. No homemade jam, jelly filled donuts, strawberry ice cream or salsa. But it was a beautiful day and we all had a nice time. Maya ended up in the carrier for most of it. She hadn't had a nap, so she was having a hard time. Didn't want to be in the stroller, WAY too crowded to let her walk.
We stayed at grama and grampa's beach house for the first time with them and uncle dan and thunder their dog. Thunder is a LARGE but SUPER well behaved mellow dog, and Maya is slowly getting used to him. It's hard to get a kid used to animals when they don't live with one. She always has a warming up period with him, but by the end she's brave enough to go up to him and say "hi!" over and over while waving right in his face. Sometimes she even touches his fur quickly.

She is now in a "yah" phase which I much prefer to the dreaded "no" phase.
Here is a sample conversation:
ME: Is your name Maya?
Maya: YAH

ME: Are you happy?
Maya: YAH

ME: Do you want some yogurt?
Maya: YAH

She can identify lots of body parts now and takes directions very well. When I ask her to throw something away she does, when I ask her to put her sheets in her drawer she does. When she sees me changing her sheets, she runs to her drawer and pulls out a clean one and brings it to me. She likes to stack things up and knock them down. She likes to make piles of similar objects, and I find these most often in the kitchen and bathroom. She also says "wooooohhhh" in the cutest way when I put the brakes on quickly in the car. Whenever it's time to leave the house she goes over to our pile of shoes by the door, and brings each of us our shoes, and the coolest part is she knows which shoes are mine Pedja's and Luka's. She is so busy these days that she isn't really interested in eating very much. But at just under 30lbs, I know I have nothing to worry about.
